I’ve been battling my skin since middle school, fighting the little battleships that relentlessly appeared on my face with every possible dermatological potion. Acne is something that I know the ins-and-outs of quite personally, as my skin regime has varied from taking oral acne medication, spending hours on YouTube researching the cure – warning from a professional, do not try toothpaste as spot treatment, it will make your acne worse –, having an eight step night routine, and everything in between. A little over a year ago, I found myself scrolling through Instagram and an advertisement for Curology popped up, promising clear skin and profound results like the testimony portrayed. You have probably seen these ads too; they are everywhere. Even Emma Chamberlin did an ad for them. All of that to say, it was not the first time I had seen an ad for Curology, but I had dismissed it every time, thinking to myself that if the cure for acne was as simple as filling out a survey and using a spot treatment, mine would be gone already. This time, however, in true why-not fashion and because the first month is free, I ordered it.
What is Curology?
Their Mission
With the slogan, “skincare made simple, for your busy life”, Curology promises to deliver personalized skincare in the easiest way possible: managed online and delivered to your door.
The Survey
The process of ordering Curology is really what makes it unique, and what began to curb my skepticism of the product. Do not be fooled by the advertisement, the survey Curology gives is extremely extensive, asking questions about skin type, previous treatments – exactly what chemical and what percentage strength –, oral medication for acne, specifically what kind and what dosage, and it also asks you to submit pictures. With all of this information, a dermatologist looks at your profile, puts together a topical treatment, and compiles an extensive report about your skin, what would be best for it, and a guide to how to get as much out of your Curology as possible.
My Experience
What Comes in the Mail
In ordering Curology, there are two options: only purchasing the prescribed Curology medication or purchasing the cleanser, Curology, and moisturizer. In hopes of achieving maximal benefit, I opted to purchase the trio. With these three products, I also received an online breakdown of my Curology, as well as the opportunity to chat with my new dermatologist. My personal formula breakdown is as follows:
What I love about this breakdown is not only that I know exactly what is in my Curology bottle, but also that it explains why each ingredient was added to help my skin. Overall, it was a great first impression from the company and I was ecstatic to try out the product.
Something I will note here is the cost of Curology. I was spending a fortune on products from my dermatologist and Curology was also appealing to me because of its cost in comparison to my old skin routine. The first month of Curology is free and if you have the trio it is $60 every two months and if you only purchase the Curology bottle it is $40 every two months.
Routine
Curology could not be easier to use. Coming from an endless skin regime from my dermatologist – Cleanser, Toner, Exfoliater, Spot Treatment, Moisturizer, SPF –, having to manage only three steps in my skin routine felt like bliss. After consulting with my online dermatologist, it was recommended I switch to the following routine:
For Sunscreen a Cetaphil SPF moisturizer was recommended.
Results
The effects of Curology were profound for me. Coming from a place where my skin was my biggest insecurity, I have been so happy with my results. Each photo in my Before and After is taken one month apart, and as you can see, even after the first month, my skin had majorly cleared up. I still use Curology to this day and my skin is not perfect, but it is vastly better than it was in the first picture.
Review
Before and After
I cannot speak more highly of this product. I am a walking, talking advertisement for them – my home friends joke they practically sponsor me – because I feel like it is the only product I have used that has really made a difference in my skin.
In changing my skin, my self-confidence has also changed. Where before I was afraid to leave my house without concealer on, I now find myself forgetting to put it on in the first place. On their website, Curology is very transparent in that it presents an 88% success rate for those who try the product, but if you have any curiosity or are battling acne as I did for so many years, I would strongly urge you to give it a try.
